Substack suggested the format of this email, but I’ll keep it sounding a little more like myself.
In the English class I teach at a local southern Iowa school, we are doing a unit on the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. We just reached the section of the book where the main character, 13-year-old Brian, has to land a small single engine airplane after the pilot has a heart attack, despite barely having any knowledge of flying whatsoever.
I think that I have that same sensation Brian had drifting over the Canadian forests in a plane out of gas when I try new things on Substack. The good thing is any “crashes” I face are only metaphorical. So, here I am.
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions1.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to The Writing Life With Jason Liegois, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of The Writing Life With Jason Liegois can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
It probably also makes sense for me to use it for quick shout-outs for authors I really have come to like and admire here on Substack. That will also be a thing.
