I knew that when I started this Substack/newsletter/blog, that I would likely screw something up in the process.
I have been learning about the Substack platform on the fly. One of the things that I knew about was that all subscribers to my blog get email updates and reminders whenever I post something. One of the things that I didn’t quite comprehend, however, is that Substack also sends along an email whenever you first subscribe to my page.
Just the other day, I had a look at the text of that email that’s been sent out to my new subscribers. Let’s just say that email was… pretty perfunctory, at the very least. I decided it was time for me to update that auto email for all the new subscribers. But I also wanted to include my current subscribers in that welcome, as well.
So, for the benefit of all my current subscribers, I’m going to post some excerpts from that new welcoming email below. Consider it my belated, humble, and profuse welcome to my humble writing project.
Dear Reader,
Thank you for taking the time to subscribe to my Substack, The Writing Life with Jason Liegois. I definitely appreciate you taking a chance on me by sending me your email and hitting the subscribe button.
I think it’s definitely appropriate at this time to talk with you about what you’ll get out of being one of my subscribers. My Substack’s mission statement is: This Substack is about writing - me talking about and giving advice on the art of writing, a showcase for my original fiction and nonfiction, and discussing my experiences in the writing life. As much as I want this to be a personal expression of myself, however, I want to be a resource to those who want to be writers or current writers looking to improve their craft.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: I’m leaving out what I wrote next because it’s a little bit of a spoiler for something I’m going to announce this weekend. Don’t worry, you’ll find out about it soon. Anyway, let’s get back to the letter.
I also want this Substack page to be more than a one-way conversation, however. On at least a monthly basis, I will be hosting open chats monthly, as well as chats for some of my blog posts.
However, don’t feel like you have to wait for those opportunities to reach out to me, whether its to let me know more about you, have a question about writing, or if you have suggestions as to how to improve the things that you get from me in your inbox. You can let me know any of these things by just replying to this email. In fact, I would love to hear why you decided to sign up with me and what you’d like to see from my page.
Also, if you’re publishing on Substack, you can ask Substack to recommend my publication. Just click on the button below.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you in the time to come. Take care, everyone.
Regards,
Jason
So, even if it wasn’t the perfect welcome, I hope that you consider yourself properly welcomed to The Writing Life.
Wait, I mentioned an announcement, right? Right.
Along with my typical weekly post, I am going to make a big announcement regarding this newsletter. It will involve subscriptions to The Writing Life and an opportunity for current subscribers to get a cool deal at the end of things. It’s my birthday coming up, so I thought it was as good a time as any to kick off something new.
As always, watch this space. I’ll likely make the announcement sometime Saturday. Take care, everyone.
